Richard Edward Pittman, 64, died Dec. 10 at his residence. The Toombs County native was born on August 19, 1937. He was retired from the animal feed and grain business, commercial property business, and the banking industry. He was a retired Lt. Col. from the Army National Guard and Army Reserves and a member of the Retired Officers Association of the U. S. Army. He was a founding father of Robert Toombs Academy serving on its board from 1970-1984, many of those years as its chairman. He was a long time member of the Rotary Club of Fernandina Beach, FL serving on many committees and fundraisers. He was a great sponsor of the Boy Scouts of America and was Northeast Florida's top fundraiser many times. He was also active in several civic organizations and served as Chief Registrar for Toombs County. He was a founder of First Coast Community Bank in Fernandina Beach, FL, serving as its chairman for many years. He was preceded in death by his father, John Walker Pittman and mother, Carrie Bell Burns Pittman. Survivors: wife, Faye Hunter Pittman of Tifton; daughters and sons-in-law, Angie and Del Brandenburg of Tifton, Jennifer and Greg Palmer of Atlanta; grandsons, Brett and Bryce Brandenburg of Tifton, Graham Palmer of Atlanta; granddaughters, Alexandra Palmer and Janie Morgan Palmer, both of Atlanta; sisters, Ossie Lee Pittman, Betty Velma Pittman Kuhn, and Nadine Oliff Pittman Edinger; brothers, Clifford Walker Pittman, John Clyde Pittman, Gerald Felton Pittman, Hoyt Summers Pittman, Jesse Herman Pittman, Billy Delma Pittman, and Broadus Mell Pittman.
