In Philadelphia, on September 15, 1791, Dorothy Crathorne married Richard Dale of Norfolk, Virginia, the eldest son of Winfield Dale and Ann Sutherland.
Dorothy and her husband Commodore Dale had six children: sons Richard Sutherland Dale, U.S.N. died 1811 (unmarried) at St. George's, Bermuda; John Montgomery Dale (1797-1852); and Edward Crathorne Dale; and daughters Mary Dale (1792-), Sarah Barry Dale, a.k.a. Mrs. Thomas McKean Pettit; and Elizabeth Dale, a.k.a. Mrs. George Campbell Read.
Note: Commodore Richard Dale was moved from Christ Church to Laurel Hill.

Died Sept 4th 1832 aged 65 years.
Beloved, honored and esteemed she was faithful and exemplary in the performance of all the duties which belong to a Christian life and in an humble reliance for salvation on the merits of the Redeemer.
She too found the peace and happy assurance of a blessed immortality.
