Joseph Dee Clarkson of 955 Madison, life-time rancher and resident of Canon City for 35 years, died Tuesday morning in a local hospital following illness of the past 30 days, becoming serious the past two weeks. He was 89.
He is survived survived by his wife, Loura Wigant Plumb, whom he married June 11, 1941.
Born Nov. 17, 1878 in Brashear, MO., son of W.C.Clarkson and Aniliza Lackey Clarkson, he left Missouri to homestead at Two Buttes, Colo., in 1910. He moved to Canon City in 1935 and worked at the Holy Cross Abbey for 21 years, as a gardner, then was retired for the past eight years.
Mr. Clarkson was a member of the First Methodist Church.
He first married Annie Maude Johnson on Feb 27 1902. She died in 1939.
In addition to his widow, Loura, survivors include children, Mrs. Orville Bellman of Canon City, Ray Clarkson of Rosalin, Kan., Albert L. Clarkson of Buffalo, Kan., Mrs. Ted Weaver of Florence; 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; Four step-children, seven step grandchildren and 12 step great grandchildren. One brother, Ralph A. Clarkson of LaPlata, MO., also survives. Funeral services will ba at 2 p.m Friday from Holt-Wilson Chapel of the Garden, the Rev. Claude Kinsley officiating.
Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery.
