JAMES SANDERS SMITH
Sanders Smith, 84, of Oglethorpe, Georgia passed away Sunday, February 1, 2004. Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 3, at 2 pm in the Oglethorpe United Methodist Church. Burial followed in the OGLETHORPE MEMORIAL GARDENS CEMETERY. Rev. Peter Barlow and Rev. C. C. Betts officiated.
Born in Dooly County, he was the son of the late J. W. Smith and Ethel Thompson Smith. Her was retired civil service from Robins Air Force Base and retired from Southern Frozen Foods. He was a World War II Veteran serving in the U. S. Army. He received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star during service. He was a member of the Oglethorpe United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class. He was a member of the W. Rawls Hogg V.F.W. Post 6442.
He is survived by his wife; Elizabeth [Heath] Barfield - Smith of Oglethorpe; children Buddy Barfield of Lawrenceville, Peggy Harvey of Montezuma and Randy Smith of Suwanee; sister, Janie Dunlap of Winter Haven, Florida; four grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Memorials may be made to the Oglethorpe United Methodist Church, Oglethorpe, Georgia 31068.
Watson-Matherws Funeral Home in Montezuma had charge of arrangements.
