C. L. BARFIELD, 25, DIES OF INJURIES; FUNERAL HELD TUES.
Charlie Lewis Barfield, 25 year old Oglethorpe lumberman passed away at a local hospital late Sunday evening after an illness of five days. Mr. Barfield was injured last Wednesday when hit by a falling tree while directing logging operations near Cordele.
Funeral services were conducted from the Oglethorpe Methodist Church of which he was a member, Tuesday afternoon. The Rev. W. W. Whaley, pastor of the Lyons Methodist Church officiated with burial in the Oglethorpe Cemetery.
Members of Mr. Barfield's high school graduating class served as pallbearers. [not copied]
A life-long resident of Oglethorpe, Mr. Barfield was the son of Lewis and Ivy Ethridge Barfield, who survive him and the husband of the former Miss Elizabeth Heath. He was engaged in logging with his father.
Survivors include his wife; one small son, Buddy Barfield, 4 1/2 years old; a little daughter, Peggy Barfield, 18 months; his parents, all of Oglethorpe and one sister, Mrs. Claude Hall of California.
Smith Tindol Funeral Home was in charge.
