She attended the Kaufman school and two years at Norris High School until it closed. She continued and graduated from White River High School in 1939.
She went to business school in Omaha, NE. Her first paying job was at Boys Town in Omaha for $12 a week. Charity worked in Washington D.C. at the Navy Department during World War II.
She returned to South Dakota, and among other things, taught school for five years. She then worked at the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Rosebud until her retirement in 1983.
Charity was united in marriage to Harold V. Weiss on December 7, 1952, at Norris. They resided at their farm near Norris. They enjoyed many years of traveling before they retired to Rapid City in 2002. Harold passed away May 26, 2004.
Charity, 91, passed away June 26, 2013, in Rapid City.
Survivors include her son, John Epperly of Minnesota; two granddaughters Jodi (Danny) Gross and Terry (Dennis) Rutgers; and five great-grandchildren of Minnesota and North Dakota; one sister, Betty Burger of Boulder, CO, sister-in-law, Irene Kaufman of Valentine, NE and numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend, Richard Naeve.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Blanche and Gus Kaufman, her husband, Harold Weiss, and a brother, James.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. CDT Monday, July 1, at St. John Lutheran Church in Norris. Viewing will be one hour before services. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery.
