Wife of James L Erwin, daughter of Wm A & M A Hemphill.

Atlanta Constitution, June 14, 1898

Mrs. Mamie Erwin, wife of Mr. James L. Erwin, died last night after a short illness at the residence of her husband, 385 Spring street. She had been ill for several weeks, and although it was known that her ailment was serious, her friends and relatives had hopes for her recovery until yesterday.

Mrs. Erwin was the daughter of Colonel W. A. Hemphill and the grand-daughter of the late James H. Anderson. She was reared in this city and had a host of friends and admirers here. During the time of her illness she was uncomplaining and bore her suffering in silence.

Mrs. Erwin was born in this city September 1, 1869, and resided here until the time of her death, except for occasional visits to other cities. In 1892 she was married to Mr. James Erwin. She is survived by her husband and one little daughter, Ruth, aged five years.

Mrs. Erwin was a lovely young matron and never failed to make friends wherever she might be. She was a devout Christian and was well known to the poor through her deeds of charity. Her many friends will learn with regret of her untimely death.

Funeral services will be conducted at Trinity church tomorrow morning at 10:30 o'clock, the pastor officiating, and the interment will be at Oakland cemetery.
