William F. "Bill' Schaaf, 65, passed away peacefully at 8:35 p.m., at his residence with his family at his side.
He was born in Jerseyville on Oct. 28, 1947, and was the son of the late Charles "Fred" and Carol Iona (Taake) Schaaf.
He graduated in 1965, from Jersey Community High School, and soon began his employment with Olin Corp.
It was shortly after he began at Olin, that Bill entered the Vietnam War with the U.S. Army. After his honorable discharge, he returned back to Olin, where he worked for the next 37 years retiring as a foreman.
He married the former Theresa Koenig on Dec. 19, 1970, in Jerseyville, and they've been blessed with nearly 43 years together and the joys of two children and five grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Theresa Schaaf of Jerseyville; a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph "Joe" and Tammy Schaaf of Greenfield; a daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Ramon Richards of League City, Texas.; five grandchildren, Justin and Haylei Schaaf, Nichelle, Erynn and Alexis Richards; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara and Robert McDonald of Jerseyville, Martha and Duane Montgomery of Jerseyville, Sharon Smith, and her companion, Lou Vanderpluym of Jerseyville, Janet Price of Jerseyville, and Paula Steckel and her companion, Mike Dahn of Jerseyville; two brothers, Michael Schaaf of Jerseyville and Henry Schaaf of Cottage Hills.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Joan C. Schaaf; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Viola Koenig.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday. Rev. Ted Engelsdorfer will officiate.
Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, with the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 conducting military graveside rites.
