Karl Var Belnap, 70, of Inkom, passed away peacefully Monday morning April 16, 2007, at Portneuf Medical Center, surrounded by his family following an illness. He was born February 28, 1937, in Pocatello, Idaho, a son of Karl Lester and Ruth Wilker Belnap. He attended schools in Pocatello and graduated from Pocatello High School. He attended ISU for one year. He served an LDS mission (Spanish-speaking) to Texas and New Mexico. On August 21, 1959, he married Ellen Fay Hunt in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He worked as a carpenter in the car department for the Union Pacific Railroad for 30 years, retiring in 1999. He used his carpenter skills to build his own home in Inkom in 1976. He also built several other homes in the surrounding area.
He was active in the LDS Church and served in various callings including Scoutmaster, elder's quorum president, bishop's counselor and gospel doctrine teacher. He enjoyed reading, and had a large library of church books and others. He had a beautiful voice and sang at many church and community functions. He was offered a full-ride scholarship to sing in the BYU Choir. His greatest joy was being with his family and grandchildren. We sure love our Dad. Var's family would like to express special thanks to the staff at Portneuf Medical Center for their loving care of their husband and father.
