Daughter of Johann Adam Sauer and Katharina Dries. Theresia's father was born in Unterafferbach, Bavaria, (son of Johann Sauer and Barbara Kraus). Her mother was born in Radheim, Hessen (close to the Bavarian border), as a daughter of Nikolaus Dries and Katharina Anderloh (according to marriage document of Goldbach for the village Unterafferbach). Theresia's parents arrived in New York in April 1861 (at age 58 and 59) and came with the ship Hammonia from Hamburg. With them traveled Georg Sauer, 23, from Unterafferbach, F.J. Dries, 23, from Radheim, and Anna Maria Bergmann, 29, from Unterafferbach, with son Johann, 4 years old.
