Coroner J Grady Moss returned a verdict of suicide by hanging on last Sunday morning, after the body of Mr J O Burks, 44, of near Eva, on Lacon Route 1, was discovered by his son shortly ater 11 o'clock hanging from a rafter beside his bed from which he had evidently jumped.
Mr Burks left no note of any kind and was found after his family missed him at the birthday dinner which they were attending at his dughter's home it was said. He had locked the doors of the house and his son was forced to climb in a window before he discovered the body.
Funeral services were held at the Providence Baptist Church at 2 o'clock on Monday with Rev Warren Talley officiating and Fischer and Son in charge.
He is survived by his wife; four sons, Odis, Howard, Jesse and James and three daughters, Alze, Lenorie and Gnell.
