Aletha A. "Peg" Dutton of Bozeman died Sunday in the Gallatin Rest Home.
She was born Aug. 12, 1903, in Billings. She attended schools in Park City where she graduated from high school.
After receiving her teacher's certificate, she taught school in Youngs Point and the Main Boulder for two years.
Aletha and Herbert Dutton were married June 11, 1923, in Livingston. They lived in the Big Timber area, where they ranched until 1940 when they moved to Cardwell and continued in ranching until 1954.
They spent tho next 13 years working for the Indiana University Geological Field Station, now called the Judson-Mead Geological Field Station, on the South Boulder. Her husband died Feb. 1, 1968.
After her husband's death, she moved to Bozeman where she has been actively involved with the Bozeman Senior Center and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.
She spent many hours and years hand-quilting quilts for the Senior Center fund-raising projects. She also did hand-quilting at home for area customers until she was 91.
She lived in her own apartment until 1998, when she moved to High Country Care after undergoing hip surgery. She moved to the Gallatin Rest Home in March 2001.
Aletha is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lois D. and Gene Hinton of Bozeman; granddaughter, Sharon J. Hinton of Carlsbad, N.M.; grandson, Gary G. Hinton of Whitehall; seven great-grandchildren, Stacey and Gary Ingram, Travis and Nikki Sant, Sarah Sant, Darcey Sant and Tyler Sant, Dustin Hinton, and Hope and John Senzig; five great-great-grandchildren, Meadow, Destiney and Sydney Ingram, Hailey and Chandler Senzig.
Graveside services are at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Mountain View Cemetery in Big Timber, with the Rev. Linda Fritz officiating and musical selections by Michael Myers.
