James P. Murphy, 67, Green Bay, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2011. Born on Oct. 6, 1943, he is the son of the late James and Agnes Murphy. He married his beloved wife, Marilyn Wesley on Dec. 28, 1968. They had two sons and enjoyed over 43 years of marriage. Jim graduated from East High School in 1962. He was an excellent athlete in football, basketball, track, and handball. Jim attended Northern Michigan University and Iowa State University before beginning his career at the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. He was the warden of Green Bay Correctional and Columbia Correctional in Portage, Wis., during the course of his 30 year career. Jim was an avid reader and a student of history and enjoyed times spent with friends and former colleagues.

Jim's family was the center of his life and he is survived by his wife, Marilyn Murphy; two sons, Jess Murphy and Ben Murphy; loving grandson, Max; one brother, Tom Murphy; and two sisters, Kathy O'Malley and Maureen Murphy.

He preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Colleen.

There will be no funeral according to Jim's wishes. A private family service will be held at a later date. MALCORE (East) Funeral Home is assisting the family, 432-5579.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the friends who visited Jim during his illness.
