Wanda Grace VanAlstine, 85, of Grant Center, went to be with her Lord on Friday, June 28, 2013.

She was born November 1, 1927 in Big Rapids, the daughter of Lawrence and Essie (Winget) Blanchard, and grew up and lived most of her life in Grant Center. On July 3, 1945, she married Albert VanAlstine, to whom she was married for 60 years. Together they had seven children. She tended the farm for many years while Albert worked away. Her life was devoted to being a loving, caring wife, mother and grandmother.

Wanda is survived by six children, Wilma (Duane) Kutchinski of Big Rapids, Bill (Lana) VanAlstine of Big Rapids, Rex VanAlstine of Big Rapids, Michael (Denise) VanAlstine of Big Rapids, Tammy (Steve) Renne of Rodney and Donna (Kevin) Highway of Kentwood; 12 grandchildren, Andy, Kacie, Melissa, Sonia, Bridget, Tera, Jessie, Conor, Shawn, Phoebe, Cory and Abby, and several great grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Betty Jernstadt and Ruth Blanchard; one brother Fred Blanchard, plus her wonderful friend and caregiver, Barbara Buffin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Albert, an infant daughter Deborah Ann, four brothers, John, Wayne, Dermont and Alan Blanchard, three sisters, Dorothy Kaiser, Marilyn and Ethel Blanchard, and infant sister Mary.

Wanda's family would like to express their appreciation to Great Lakes Caring Hospice, Nina, Sharon, Missy and Rebecca for their loving care.

Funeral services for Wanda will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 1, 2013 at Grant Center United Methodist Church, with Chaplain Zack Nyhuis and Pastor Lyle Ball officiating. Burial will be in the Grant Center Cemetery. Memorial contributions to Great Lakes Caring Hospice or the Grant Center United Methodist Church may be left in care of the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, where Wanda's family will greet friends on Sunday from 3-6 p.m., and at the church prior to services on Monday.
