Kenneth F. Boutwell, 52, of 70 Burden Drive, Oswego, an active civic leader in Oswego and former state assembly candidate from the 117th District, died Saturday, Aug. 27, in Oswego Hospital after a long illness. Mr. Boutwell was president of Mohawk Beverage Distributing Corp., a beer wholesaler in Oswego. He was a member and past chairman of the NY State Beer Wholesalers Assoc. He received the "Sammy Award" from the State Beer Wholesalers Association for outstanding
lifetime achievement in the industry in 1979.
Mr. Boutwell was a native of Gainesville, NY, and was graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology. He had resided in Oswego for many years. He was a member of the Oswego Chamber of Commerce and served two terms as president. He was also a member of the Oswego Elks Club and the First United Methodist Church. An Air Force veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Boutwell was a member of the Oswego Chapter of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was past president of the Oswego Rotary Club, and was recently a recipient of the Paul Harris Award of the National Rotary Club. Mr. Boutwell was a trustee of Oswego Hospital, a trustee of Oswego City Savings Bank, and a director of the Oswego Historical Society.
He ran unsuccessfully for the state assembly in the 117th District as a Democratic candidate in 1982. Survivors are his wife, the former Constance Battles; two sons, Kevin J. of Baldwinsville, and Mark S. of Oswego; a brother, Earl of Gainesville; two sisters, Mrs. Walter Brooks of Silver Springs and Mrs. Robert Pike of Pavilion; and a grandchild. Services were held Wednesday, Aug. 31,
in First United Methodist Church of Oswego. The Reverend Frank Halse officiated. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Oswego.
