Mary Buehner, 78, Mitchell, died Friday, April 13, 2007 at Avera McKennan Hospice in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services will be Tuesday, 2:00 PM at the Zion Lutheran Church in Mitchell. Burial will be in Servicemen's Memorial Cemetery in Mitchell. Visitation will be from 6-8PM Monday evening with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM at the Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Mary Helen Buehner was born February 6, 1929 in Delmont, SD, to Emmanuel and Lydia (Semmler) Drefs. On February 25, 1947 she was united in marriage to Carl R. Buehner. The couple spent the early years of their marriage farming in the Clayton, SD area. In 1956 she and Carl moved to Mitchell where they raised five children. Mary was employed by Johnson Furniture in Mitchell, as a drapery seamstress for many years. She was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She loved to sew, garden and cook. She and Carl were longtime members of Zion Lutheran Church where she served on the Altar Guild. They also provided janitorial services for the church. The family spent many weekends and summers at Roy Lake where they enjoyed fishing.
She is survived by one son, Douglas and wife Cheryl of Spearfish, SD, three daughters: Rebecca Meister and husband John, Snohomish, WA; Karla Diaz and husband Andres, Houston, TX; Tamara Appletoft and husband Steve, Redfield, SD; 18 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and two great greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Carl in 1987, one son, Brian Buehner in 2003, four sisters: Martha Boettcher, Amanda Lagg, Clara Vogel, Viola Drefs and three brothers: Andreas, Rienhold and Alvin.
