Dr. Willson was born in New York, county unknown at this time. He received medical license from Dutchess Co. Medical Society in May, 1808 after apprenticing with Dr. Amasa Bucknum in Bare Market, Stanford, Dutchess co. In 1819, he married Mary (Polly) Davis in Goshen, GA.; in 1829, he paid taxes in Lafayette Co., AR.; in 1830, they were in Claiborne District, LA; in 1834, he arrived in San Augustine Co., TX. Between 1845 and 1850, they moved to Peachtree Village, Tyler Co., TX, where they lived until death in 1861.

Dr. Willson reportedly owned land in the Sulphur Springs area where he reportedly treated patients. This Sulphur Springs family plot is extremely remote and is close to the Payne family plot where his daughter, Julia, and her husband Grant W. Payne are buried. Both are in the extreme northwest part of Tyler County. Dr. Willson was a member of the Masons.

Dr. and Mrs. Willson were the parents of 6 children, one of whom, Caroline Amanda died young.

The daughter who is not linked below is Emily Caroline Willson, wife of Henry West. They are both buried in Magnolia Cemetery in Woodville, Tyler co. TX.
