KOREAN CONFLICT
Rorer James Barker, Jr., 81, of 2862 Mount Olive Road, Martinsville, Va., passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at his residence.
He was born on August 9, 1931, in Henry County to the late Clara Nance Barker and Rorer James Barker, Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen McBride Barker and sister, Doris Howerton.
Mr. Barker was a member of Mount Olive Christian Church and past member of the Mount Olive Ruritan Club. He retired from Bassett Furniture Company with 48 years of service in the credit department. He also served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Barker is survived by his wife, Elvis May Martin Barker of the home; children, John Barker of Fort Worth, Texas, Diane Lawson of Martinsville, Va., Glenda Deal of Lambsburg, Va., Dennie Deal of Axton, Va., Jonathan Deal of Halifax, Va., Betty Balblock of Asheboro, N.C., Ginny Harrell of Danville, Va., Nancy Lumpkin of Danville, Va., Glenie McBride of Fredericksburg, Va.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2013, at Norris Funeral Services Martinsville Chapel with Minister Tim Mills officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Burial Park, Martinsville, Va.
Visitation will be Friday night, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Norris Funeral Services and other times at the home.
