I am a descendant of Samuel Jethro Butler who served in the Revolutionary War with a South Carolina regiment as a teen-ager. He died in Claiborne Parish, Louisiana. Winifred Tiner was not his wife and is not buried with him in Louisiana. She was married to a Jethro Butler in Bertie County, North Carolina in 1891 but they never left North Carolina. The Jethro Butler who died in 1841 in Claiborne Parish, Louisiana bought land there in 1820 and was living there in 1841. He applied for a pension for his Revolutionary War service in 1829. As part of this application, he stated that he was born in Bertie County, N. C. but moved as a young child to South Carolina. He was living in Charleston, South Carolina in 1890 and stated that he also lived in Georgia, Mississippi and Louisiana. There is an attachment to his application stating that he died in 1841 in Claiborne leaving no widow. Also includes a list of his children. Your record of Winifred Tiner says she died in 1867. I do not know who was the wife of this Samuel Jethro Butler or how many wives he had. But I know that he was not married to Winifred Tiner.
