Killed by the Train
Marshall Barney Is Instantly Killed at Herrington, An Unfortunate Family.

This city was shocked at about noon Friday to hear that Marshall Barney, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Barney of this city, had been killed by an engine at Herrington, that morning.

The tragedy was doubly horrifying on account of the tragical death of Scott Barney, a brother of the deceased, only a few months ago.

The young wife is prostrated by the blow, and the aged parents feel the shock heavily. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to them. Funeral services were conducted from the U. B church by Rev. L. G. Garman, Sunday, and all that remained mortal of a once bright young life was laid to eternal rest in the Greensburg cemetery.

"Marshall Edward Barney was born in Fulton Co., Pa., August 10, 1872. Killed at Herrington Kansas by an engine without a moments warning Mar. 6, 1903 at 9:30 p.m. Aged 31 years 6 months and 21 days. He was once a shining light among the people of God. While in Texas he led the choir in singing and often stood as a witness for the blessed Christ that died to redeem a world from sin. His trials, temptations, sorrows and disappointments are all past and he has gone to join the millions in the city of the dead."
