John Altenburg
John Altenburg, 56, 1031 River Road, Mosinee, died on Thursday, October 22 at St. Joseph Hospital in Marshfield. Funeral services were held on Sunday, October 25 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Mosinee. The Rev. John Holten officiated at the 2:00 p.m. service and burial was in the Mosinee Cemetery.
He was born on August 5, 1925 in Wausau, son of G.J. and Eva Altenburg. On June 20, 1953 he married Joan Hansen in Wauwatosa. He attended the University of New Mexico A&M and Marquette University, Milwaukee. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the Mosinee National Guard and U.S. Army Reserves in Wausau, attaining the rank of captain.
He had been a businessman in Mosinee for 30 years. He was associated with his father in Altenburg Motors, A&W Trucking and John Altenburg Cold Storage. In 1963 he formed the investment firm of Altenburg and Gooding Inc., Wausau. He was a director of American Industrial Silo Inc., Mosinee, and president of Schuld Transportation Inc. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and served on the church council as treasurer.
Survivors include: his wife and mother; one daughter, Lynn, Elgin, Ill., and two sons, John and Andrew, Mosinee.
Pallbearers were Vernon Ahles, William Blake, George Rondeau, Francis Rondeau, James Frieberg, and Robert Murray.
