LUNENBURG -- Donald J. Wakefield 65, of Lunenburg, MA., passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday October 17, 2012 with his family at his side.

He was born on January 28,1947 in Saco, Maine the son of Elmore and Orilla (Downer) Wakefield and was raised in Maine. He attended and graduated from Kennebunk High School in 1965. Donald enlisted in the U.S Army in 1966 and served in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1969.

He worked as the night supervisor for Steel Fab for 32 years and the seven years at Ranor Steel retiring in 2012. Don was an accomplished wood carver and he attended many classes at Wood Carver's Plus. He loved flower and vegetable gardening, vacationing in Maine with family, and baking bread with granddaughter Michaela. He was also an avid fisherman and hunter
He was a life member of the National VFW, and the Vietnam Veteran's Chapter 116 in Leominster, MA.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years Cheryl (Provencial) Wakefield, his daughter, Michelle A. Wakefield of Fitchburg, MA., five brothers, Elmore Wakefield Jr. of Grantham, N.H., Harold Wakefield of Fargo, AZ., Steven Wakefield of Kennebunk, Maine, Gerald Wakefield in Hawaii, and Kenneth Wakefield in South Carolina, one sister, Theresa Baggenstoss of Minnesota, his granddaughter, Michaela and several nephews and nieces.

WAKEFIELD -- A funeral service with Military Honors will be held on Friday October 26, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. in the Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery, 111 Glenallen St., Winchendon, MA.
