Roy Bower, skipper of the fishboat Cara Lou, and his crew, Jack Chambers, went out in a storm in an attempt to assist another fishboat to shore. They lost their lives in the attempt. The Fleet of Flowers, a memorial procession to remember fishermen who are lost at sea, is held every Memorial Day at Depoe Bay, and was started in memory of Bower and Chambers.
