REX G. AVERILL, 88, Carpenter Rd., died at Mansfield General Hospital following an illness of several months.

Mr. Averill was born at Paw Paw, Van Buren, Michigan, on December, 2, 1880.

He graduated from Purdue University in 1905 with a degree in electrical engineering. Mr. Averill was first associated with Westinghouse in Pittsburgh, coming to Mansfield in 1907 when he became associated with the Ohio Brass Co.. He retired at Ohio Brass in 1948.

He was marred to Dr. Gay Walker Averill who died in 1957.

He was a member of Tau Beta, honorary engineering fraternity; a member of the First Congregational church of Mansfield, and deacon emeritus of the church. He was a member of Mansfield Lodge 35, Free and Accepted Masons, and Mansfield Commandry 21, Knights Templar.

Surviving are one daughter, Mary Jo Averill of Mansfield; two newphews, Rex Averill Edmonds of Benton Harbor, Michigan, and Jack Hinkley of Petosky, Michigan.

Funeral services will be held at the Jones Memorial in charge of the Rev. Lee Tyson, associate pastor of First Congregational Church. Burial will be in Mansfield Memorial Park.
