He attended Good Hope High. He entered the US Army in 1943, and trained at Ft Sam Houston, He served in France, Germany, and Italy. He was awarded EAME, 8 Bronze Stars, Dist. Unit Badge, 1 OLC, GC Ribbons. He was discharged in 1945 as a PFC. He married Pauline "Lavern" Wall July 18, 1947. They had four daughters. He was farmer by trade.
