Obit: Jane Larie Murrell, 64, of Sloan died Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 13, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix, Iowa, with the Rev. Donald J. Slavin officiating. Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery, Oto, Iowa, under direction of Wood Funeral Home of Sloan.

Jane Larie was born January 19, 1938, in Oto, the daughter of Mervin L. and Helen (Dolan) Jackson.

She attended school in Oto, graduating with the Class of 1956. She attended Morningside College in Sioux City for one year.

On February 2, 1957, she married Norman Gayle Murrell in Oto. The couple farmed near Anthon, Iowa, for 16 years, before moving to Sloan in 1973.

She was employed at Pork's Grocery in Anthon for three years and at K-Mart in Sioux City for 25 years, retiring in 1998. The couple had wintered in Florida for several years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She enjoyed being with her family and friends and especially her grandchildren and great-grandsons. She also enjoyed her flowers, camping, fishing and dancing.

She is survived by her husband, Norman Gayle Murrell of Sloan; two sons, Dean and his wife, Rene, of Shawnee, Kansas, and Ronald of Shawnee, Kansas; two daughters and their husbands, Lorie and Ronald Jepsen of Bronson, Iowa, and Carla and Steve Crawford of Sloan; nine grandchildren, Rebecca Chan, Ryan Friis, Hannah Jepsen, Austin Murrell, Ashley Murrell, Kelsey Murrell, Megan Crawford, Abagail Crawford and Katie Crawford; two great-grandsons, Jacob and Dalton Chan; and a sister and her husband, Merlene and Don Flynn of Madrid, Iowa.
