Chester C. Fines, 80, of Falmouth died Wednesday, May 25, 2005, at his home. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Mr. Fines had retired from the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Board. He was a World War II Navy veteran.

Survivors include his sister, Mabel Thornsbury of Texas; his brother, John "Abbie" Fines of Richmond; several nieces and nephews; and caregivers Donna Freeman and Becky Mock. He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Fines, who died April 27; a son, Michael Fines; his mother, Elsie Fines; his father, John E. Fines; a brother, Vernon D. Fines; and a sister, Berneice Kimmitz.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 28, at Bethel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Scott Covington officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Entombment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Pallbearers will be Gordon Carter, Phil Carter, Boostie Bullock, Willie Mason and Jake Helmick.
