Henry Vander Veen, 87, of Orange City died Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999, at the Long Term Care Facility of the Orange City Hospital.

A funeral service was held on Monday, Dec,13 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev Timothy Ouwinga officiated. Burial followed at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City under the direction of the Oolman Funeral Home, Orange City.

Henry was born Dec. 25, 1911, at Springfield, S.D., the son of Cornelius and Janke (Brandsma) Vander Veen. He was raised in South Dakota and came to the Orange City area as a young adult.

On March 3, 1940, he married Nellie De Jager in Orange City. They farmed in Sioux County until 1953, when they moved into Orange City.

Henry was employed at the Alton Farmers Elevator and Orange City Builders Supply.

Nellie died May 1,1979, in Orange City.

On March 28, 1982, he married Grace Dragstra Mesaros in Orange City where they continued to make their home.

In the spring of 1995, he became a resident of the Long Term Care Facility.

Mr. Vander Veen was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church where he had served on the consistory and participated in the Mens Society.

He enjoyed woodworking, especially making toys for his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter-in-law, Karen Vander Veen of Orange City; two sons and their wives, Harvey and Karen Vander Veen of Spencer and Marvin and Beth Vander Veen of Orange City; a daughter and her husband, Betty and Arlin Kiel of Thompson; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Minnie Odens of Springfield, S.D.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Clarence; a stillborn son also named Marvin; a greatgranddaughter, April Louwerse; three brothers and four sisters.

Memorials are being directed to the Orange City Christian School.
