"MILO and KINGFIELD---Ruth Dolley, 94, widow of Milton G Dolley, passed away peacefully November 28, 2010, in the loving arms of her family. Ruth was born July 28, 1916, in Guilford, the daughter of Estelle (Wharff) and Guy Dow, and was raised by Oscar and Mary Etta "Mammy" Shorey in Dover-Foxcroft. Ruth and Mike were married on March 13, 1937. Together, they raised three children; Mitchell Dolley of Kansas, Josephine Bessey of Kingfield, and Timothy Dolley of Arizona.
During World War II, Ruth worked for the Canadian Pacific Railroad. After the war, she and Mike lived in various homes along the CP Rail, including Camp Twelve, Brownville Junction, Greenville and Megantic, Quebec. They loved to spend time at their camp on Little Benson Pond, and after Mike retired from the railroad, they enjoyed extensive travel throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. Ruth obtained her driver's license at the age of 56, and could rarely be kept at home after that. She spent many happy hours at Bingo halls across Maine and beyond, and reveled in the smallest winnings, no matter how much she spent to play the game. She enjoyed quilting, making novelty craft items, and jellies, jams and fudges, and participated in craft sales until her final day. She was a caring and devoted mother and a wonderful "Mammy" to all her many grand and great-grandchildren.
Ruth shared a home with her son, Mitchell in Kansas during the winters, living in Milo in the summers, until moving to Kingfield two years ago, where she made a home with Chuck and Jo Bessey.
Ruth is survived by her son, Mitchell; daughter, Jo and son-in-law, Chuck; son, Timothy and daughter-in-law, Barbara; eleven grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She leaves behind her beloved cat, B.B.
The family wishes to thank Connie Fitch, Chaplain Dick Waddell and the volunteers of Androscoggin Hospice, as well as Bridging the Gap of Kingfield for their care and friendship during her final months.
