The Givens family lost its rock. Gary Ray Givens passed away on June 13, 2013. Gary was a Downey resident for the past 37 years. He was the son of Elmer and Georgia Givens, born in Hutchinson, Kansas the youngest of 5 children. Gary married his high school sweetheart Patricia in August 1959 and moved to California in 1961. He worked different jobs that included being an apartment manager and gas station clerk. He finally found his job that would define his career. He got a job selling signs and traffic safety equipment with Hawkins Traffic in 1965. From that moment on he became one of the pioneers of the traffic safety and markings industry. He took a job with Bauer Paint in 1968 and worked there for 20 years selling pavement marking materials and equipment to municipalities. Having grown as far as he could at Bauer, Gary embarked on his own company based on his own vision. He opened Roadline Products Inc., U.S.A. in 1988 that specialized in manufacturing the paint stencil truck. He became the pioneer in this field. His vision of this equipment became a part of the majority of city and counties equipment fleet. Gary was known in the industry as a man that would get things done and with integrity. He was always willing to give his time and efforts to help anyone out. The Givens family moved to Downey in 1975 and still remain. Gary is survived by his loving wife Patricia, daughters Brenda and Ann and son Scott. Grandkids Matthew, Megan, Stephen, Kelsey, Nicholas and Alexis. The last of the family tree was born on February 6, 2013 in the form of a Great Grandson Evan. He will be truly missed. We love you Dad!
