Shirley was a loving and devoted mother and after raising her children, she worked in a legal office and was a realtor. Later in life, she married Melvin Klages and they lived in Boulder City, Nevada, and traveled extensively. Following his passing, she was an active member of The Boulder City Republican Women, a volunteer for St. Jude's Hospital and was a devout Baptist. Shirley married Edward Bare, M.D., on January 1, 2000, and they made their home in Tarkio, Missouri. They traveled, enjoyed dancing, and made Gulf Shores, Alabama, their winter home. They recently retired to Brookdale Center in Overland Park, Kansas.
Shirley peacefully joined the Lord on Monday, May 27, 2013, surrounded by family and those who loved her. She was preceded in death by her sister, Jane, and her daughter, Susan Kidwell. Shirley is survived by her husband, Edward Bare; daughter, Carol Robidoux; son, Robert Ferguson; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Marilyn Bier and her husband, Stanley, Elise Hiatt, and Wes Bare.
A private family inurnment will be held at a later date at Home Cemetery, Tarkio.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Tarkio United Methodist Church or the Atchison County Health Center.
