Aaron James VanWinkle Jr. was the son of Aaron Vanwinkle Sr. and Kathleen Vanwinkle.
Aaron James VanWinkle Jr. died Friday from injuries suffered in an auto accident in Calaveras County. He was 15.
He was born in Sonora and graduated from Soulsbyville Elementary School, where he wrestled and played basketball. He also played football for Tuolumne County Cowboys and was named a most valuable player.
He recently completed his freshman year at Sonora High School where he earned a 3.67 grade point average and played on the basketball team. He enjoyed fishing and camping.
Mr. VanWinkle is survived by his mother, Kathleen VanWinkle of Sonora; his father, Aaron VanWinkle Sr. of Sonora; brothers, Chuck L. Storm III and Corey M. Taylor, both of Sonora; sisters, Amber N. Taylor and Tiffany R. VanWinkle, both of Sonora; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, including nephew Quentin Taylor of Sonora.
He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Myrna Altamirano and Norma Holmes; his grandfather, Wayne Taylor; and uncles, Hubert Taylor and Dru Crumpton.
