Hobert Brown was the youngest child of French Man and May (Rexroad) Brown. He was born on the farm at Salt Lick, Braxton, West Virginia. His siblings were Flavil b. 1911, Basil b. and d. 1913, Ezra b. 1916, and a sister who is still living. His mother, May, died when Hobert was 15.
All 3 brothers eventually migrated to the area south of Detroit, Wayne, Michigan and found work there. Hobert lived in Southgate for many years. He married Helen (whom he called Hannah) Luczak. They had 6 children; Douglas, and 5 others who are still living.
Tragedy struck the family on July 4, 1960 when Douglas drowned at age 6, during a holiday outing. Douglas is also buried at Our Lady of Hope. At some point following the terrible loss of their child, Hannah and Hobert parted.
Hobert died in 1988. His gravestone states that his birthdate was January 29, 1929, but his sister places his birth in 1924. The 1930 census show him age 6, placing his birth in 1923-1924. His SSDI record shows him born in 1923.
