Mrs. Nancy A. Seely
On Sunday morning last word was given out that Grandma Seely had passed away the evening before. Mrs. Seely was among the oldest residents of Compton, was well known and universally loved by all who knew her. After being confined to her bed for the past three years she passed peacefully and quietly about 6:30 on Saturday evening, December 28, 1912.
Mrs. Nancy Anna Seely was a native of New York State, being born in Walton, Delaware county, on January 8, 1827. From New York they moved to Iowa where they lived some twenty years, then moved to Nebraska where they resided about seven years, then came to California and settled at Compton in 1887, some twenty-five years ago.
On Monday evening the 23d she had a light stroke of paralysis and a billious attack and grew worse until Saturday evening when she passed away. She leaves one daughter and two sons, Mrs. Flora Bessing [sic., Lossing] who has been taking care of her, and Chas. Seely of Minneapolis and W. D. Seely of Huntington Beach; and two sisters, Miss Jennie Seely who has been living with her mother [sic., sister] and Mrs. Emma Chamberlain.
Funeral services were held in the Congregational Church on Tuesday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. G. H. Wilson and Rev. W. Harsnape, her former pastor. She was laid to rest by the side of her husband who preceded her three years ago at the age of 93. years.
