Mary Jane Lee Gillespie was the daughter of Franklin Lee and Isabel Amanda Praytor, according to her death certificate, both were born in TN. Mary Jane is on the 1900 census with her husband Josiah Tipton Bailey Gillespie in Cocke Co, she has 4 children: Claricy 6, Jesse 4, Belle 2 and Luly 4/12. Mary Jane married Josiah Gillespie on 28 October 1893 in Cocke Co, Josiah was the only known son of Jesse R Gillespie and Elender "Sade" Shelton Gillespie Lindsey of Madison Co., NC; his parents had split up after his birth & he was raised by an aunt Clarissa Gillespie Marrow & her husband Harrison Marrow.

They moved to Greenville, SC by 1910 where they are listed as: Joseph Gillispie 37 Mary J Glaspy 39 Clarissie Gillispie 15 [5] Jesse Gillispie 14 William Gillispie 12 Lula Gillispie 10 Ella Gillispie 8 Jamie Glaspy 5 Jennie Gillispie 5 Cora Glaspy 3.

I found them still living in Greenville in 1933 on 13B Church St, Josiah was working as a Framer at American Spinning Company.

Mary Jane died in Greenwood in 1944, she is buried at Bold Spring Baptist Church.
