Sarah Elizabeth Zimmer, one of my third great grandmothers, immigrated to the United States from Germany, per her United States Census records, in about the year of 1834.
She married Karl Schmidt, son of George William Schmidt and Charlotte Pitton, on February 1, 1855 in Marietta Township, Washington County, Ohio. The marriage produced three children, that is:
1. William Schmidt, born on March 23, 1854 in Washington County, Ohio;
2. Martin Schmidt, born on March 5, 1856 in Ohio; and,
3. Charles Schmidt, born about 1860 in Ohio.
The marriage did not last. Sarah is found by the 1860's United States Census living with her three boys in Marietta, Ohio.
On March 19, 1861 Sarah married Henry Jacob Stegner, a resident of Liberty Township, Washington County, Ohio. She was a resident of Marietta at the time of her second marriage.
Sarah and Henry had three children together:
1. Louis (Ludwig) Stegner, born April 9, 1863 in Ohio;
2. John Stegner, born September 1, 1867 in Ohio; and,
3. George Henry Stegner, born September 2, 1873 in Liberty Township, Washington County, Ohio.
