Funeral services for Mrs. Bettie Sue Smith, age 79 of Wetumpka formerly of Lineville, will be Thursday, April 5, 2012 at 3:00 P.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland with Rev. Mark Williams, Rev. Robert D. Wood Sr. and Rev. Mike Perry officiating. Burial will follow at the Clay County Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Smith passed away on Monday, April 2, 2012 at her home. A Clay County native, she was a homemaker and a military wife who traveled to many locations with her husband, USAF Retired Staff Sgt. Robert Clifton "Smitty" Smith. Following his retirement from the service, they returned to Clay County and lived there for most of the rest of their lives. Bettie was a member of Center West Baptist Church but had attended Coosada Baptist Church in Coosada, Alabama since moving to Wetumpka.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughter, Loretta S. Short (Ricky) of Wetumpka/Ashland; one sister, La June Mitchell (Troy) of Chelsea; two granddaughters: Danielle and Angela Easter and a number of nieces, nephews and extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mike C. Carter and Beulah Morris Carter; her husband, Robert Clifton "Smitty" Smith; one daughter, Belinda Jean Easter; one son, Stanley Ray Smith; four sisters: Lorene Perry, Louise Moore, Mary Childs and Judy Anderson; two brothers, Palmer Carter and Paul Carter.

Pallbearers will be Walter Paul Carter Jr., Terry Cage Carter, Larry Buckhannon, Rev. Robert D. Wood Sr., Richard Shane Short, Robert D. Wood Jr. and Larry Roberson.

The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 from 5:30 to 8:00 P.M. and until service time on Thursday.
