Ruth N. Brown, 93, of Bloomington, passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at her residence.
Born July 13, 1919, in Monroe County, she was the daughter of Ott and Sarah (Eads) Sowders.
Ruth served as secretary for the Indiana Department of Legislature under Gov. Otis Doc Bowen, and for the Monroe County Republican Party Chairman Carl Myers.
She was also employed at The Herald-Times, Bureau of Motor Vehicles, Al Herman Jewelry Store and she was a crossing guard at Fairview Elementary School.
Survivors include one daughter, Jennifer A. Brown of Bloomington; cousin, Marcella Deckard (Ken) of Smithville; one nephew, Dr. Tom Thomas (Karen) of Denton, Tx: her friends and companions, dogs, Rusty and Andy, cats, Abb, Spuds, Maria and Bluegrass.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ercell B. Brown, one sister Elsie Thomas; one stepdaughter, Ruthann Cook; and one niece Jane Thomas Boruff.
A graveside service will be Friday, January 11, 2013, at Clear Creek Cemetery. The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 2000 E. Third St. in Bloomington, is handling arrangements.
