1917 - 2013

Violet Fannie Bennett White, widow of Richard H. White, passed away in her sleep, June 9, 2013. She was born in Indianapolis, Ind., December 1, 1917, but has resided in Pensacola for most of the past fifty-seven years.

Mrs. White is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Addie Jeanne and Clifford Oberlander and Elizabeth Sue and Phillip Dawson Jr., grandchildren R.J. Oberlander, Phillip (Belinda) Dawson III, Mary Dawson, Michael (Jeanne) Dawson, Anne Dawson, eight great-grandchildren, one great great granddaughter, brother Robert Bennett, and niece Jackie Barker, both of Indianapolis.

On February 18, 1936, Mrs. White married her husband who was in the U.S. Navy. After serving more than twenty-three years, Mr. White retired to Pensacola. Mrs. White was employed by the late Dr. Arthur Butt as well as a local radiology group.

Among her achievements Mrs. White attained her private pilot's license after she had become a grandmother. She was made an honorary member of the Pensacola Navy Flying Club around 1966. Mrs. White was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for more than fifty years, and also held membership in MOAA and ROWWA. Mrs. White served as a Red Cross volunteer at the Navy Hospital for many years until having to retire in December, 2012. As a charter member of Westwood Christian Church in Myrtle Grove, Mrs. White served in a variety of positions within the church. She was a very loving and caring person who will be sorely missed.

Visitation will be held from 5pm to 7pm on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. Her funeral will be held at 11am on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Westwood Christian Church, with Pastor Rick Malugani officiating and interment to follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Westwood Christian Church, 1111 N. 57th Ave., Pensacola FL 32506. Oak Lawn Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
