William Chesney is believed to be the son of Alexander and Margaret Hodge Chesney and the husband of Mourning Hewlett. William's father is said to have been born in 1756 in Dunclug, Antrim, Ireland. His mother was Margaret Hodge (1759-1781). According to page 130 of the "Union County Heritage - South Carolina, 1981", Wm Chesney was raised by his maternal grandfather, Wm Hodge, in Union Co., S.C. He later moved to Tennessee and apparently then to Mississippi. Some state that he had a son, James F. Chesney (b. 1835 in AL).
