"H. Earl Cox, 86, of 407 W. Center Street, former bank employee
and long active in community affairs, died Monday
in Lakeland Nursing Home South, Elkhorn, where he had resided the past two years.
He was born in Whitewater May 29, 1886, and was a longtime assistant cashier
at Whitewater Commercial Bank, retiring in 1958.
Mr. Cox was appointed to the Walworth County Selective Service Board in 1940,
served 26 years and was recipient of a certificate of appreciation
from the late President Lyndon Johnson upon retiring from the board.
Mr. Cox was a member of the Whitewater Volunteer Fire Department 60 years,
serving as treasurer for 39 years.
He was a former city assessor,
and for many years a judge of harness racing at county fairs
in Southern Wisconsin and Northern Illinois.
He was a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge No. 57, F&AM;
a member of OES Minneiska Chapter 149, Lions Club,
First United Methodist Church and the Whitewater Historical Society.
Mr. Cox was married June 24, 1911 to Eunice Walbridge of Malone, New York, Whitewater music teacher and choir director who passed away in 1971
during their sixtieth year of marriage.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Warren Luedke of Wheaton, Illinois
and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) in the church
with burial in Hillside Cemetery.
Visitation was Wednesday at Skindingsrude Funeral Home
where Masonic services were held at 8:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the church or other organizations of which Mr. Cox had been a member."

Eighty-five members of the Lions Club,
their wives and guests
sat down to a moose dinner Tuesday evening,
prepared by Lion Earl Cox and his committee
at the community building.
The moose roast was furnished
by the Hackett-Parnham-Evans hunting party,
a result of their recent excursion
into the Canadian wilds."
