Daughter of Samuel Robertson (1784-1869), a Presbyterian minister, of Windham, New York; her mother was Dorcas Hopkins Platt Robertson (1790-1868) granddaughter of James Robertson who came to America at the outset of the Revolutionary War. He served under George Washington. After the War, he made his family home in the Catskill Mountains.
