"H.F.W. Tecklenburg fell from the bridge planks running up to the Lock No. 1 on the Berm Bank of the Miami and Erie Canal in the village of New Bremen, Auglaize Co., Ohio. They carried him to his father's house, he was not able to speak plain enough to be understood and he died already the next day."

Served in the Civil War; Company D, 24th Regiment, Illinois
Infantry Volunteers (5 July 1861 - 6 Aug 1864). Was a POW 20 Sept 1863 captured at the battle of Chickamunga, Georgia (was on the wounded list). 2 Oct 1863 - paroled at Chattanooga, TN.(submitted by a family member)
The St. Peter’s Church records show his cause of death as "a fall in the woods"...
