The eldest son of Walter S. and Ellen (Jarvis) Dow.

WOODLAND - Russell J. Dow, 82, of 31 Summit St., Woodland, died unexpectedly Jan. 28, I997, at a Calais hospital.
He was born In Portland, Aug. 23, 1914, the eldest son of Walter S. and Helen (sic) (Jarvis) Dow. He served in World War II In the U.S. Navy, Y2C, on the U.S.S. Canberra (CA-70). Later he served at Fleet Headquarters (QINCPAC) Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He was a continuous service member of 52 years of Post No. 23 American Legion, Woodland; a member of the Woodland Peoples Methodist Church and a former member of the St. Croix Country Club. He was very active In community service work and for many years in the expansion and enlargement of the Woodland schools and the town library. In 1978, he retired from the St. Croix/Georgia Pacific Company after 41 years of active service. He was a past president of the Quarter Century Club.
Surviving are his wife, Frances (Lowe) Dow of Woodland; one son, John R. of Woodland: two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Barbara) Bowker of Bangor, Mrs. Thomas (Debra) Kneeland of South Princeton; six grandchildren, one great-grandson, two nephews; and a sister, Mrs. Clayton F. MrGary of Sarasota, Fla.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no visiting hours. Spring graveside committal services will be held in Woodland Cemetery. Gifts in his memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Arrangements are by the Scott-Wilson Funeral Home of Calais.

His sister, Louise Elizabeth Dow, born 20 Jul 1917 in Baileyville, Maine:
SARASOTA, Fla. -- Louise Dow McGary, 93, formerly of Manchester, N.H., died March 4, 2011, in Sarasota. A former teacher and homemaker, she was also an accomplished decorative artist. She was a former member of the First Congregational Church in Manchester. Mrs. McGary was predeceased by h er husband of 65 years, Clayton F. McGary, a 30-year employee of the Goodwin Funeral Home. She is survived by several nieces and nephews in Maine. Burial will take place in Sarasota.
