Austa Pauline Beasley, 87, daughter of Wilson and Avis Wright Scott, was born Nov. 24, 1917. She died June 20, 2005, at Houston House Nursing Center.

She grew up in the Oscar and Big Creek communities, where she attended school.

She married Radius Beasley in 1935. They had three children.

The Beasleys attended church at Wildwood. Mrs. Beasley was a homemaker and enjoyed overnight fishing trips with her family. She loved handing out candy to her grand- and great-grandchildren at Halloween and going to yard sales.

After becoming a resident at Houston House, she enjoyed playing bingo, watching comedies on TV and visiting with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, John Wilson Beasley; two sisters, Pearl Garrison and Goldie Bullock; five brothers, Dave Scott, Carl Scott, William Scott, Gregory Scott and Herman Scott; and her parents.

Surviving are two daughters, Vera Lorraine Derrick of Raymondville and Melba Arlene Beasley of Houston; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandsons.

Graveside services were June 22 at the Mahan Cemetery at Raymondville with the Rev. Cordie Wimberley officiating under the direction of Evans Funeral Home of Houston.
