Phenix City, AL - Mildred Ginn Knighton, 96, of Phenix City, AL passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at Columbus Hospice House.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am EST, on Friday, June 14, 2013, at Lakeview Memory Gardens with Reverend David Dollar officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 pm EST at Vance Memorial Chapel.
Mrs. Knighton was born on January 4, 1917, in Ellerslie, GA, the daughter of the late, Elmer Lon Ginn and Della Anna Jenkins Ginn. She retired from Eagle and Phenix Mills after 30 plus years as a Cloth Inspector and was the oldest member of St. James Freewill Baptist Church in Phenix City where she taught Sunday School for many years. She loved nature and enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening and reading.
Other than her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of 40+ years, Pickett Eudonah Knighton, a son, Melvin Douglas Knighton, sisters, Avis Lee and Doris Beall and brothers, Harmon Ginn, James Ginn and Cecil Ginn.
She is survived by two daughters, Betty Knighton Bunn of Crawford, AL and Judy Knighton McVey of Phenix City, AL; two brothers, Billy Ginn, wife Laverne of Buford, AL and Raymond Ginn, wife Lena of Cairo, GA; four grandchildren, Mike Bunn (Tonya), Blair Bunn, Jennifer Mathis (Mike) and Jason McVey (Lauren); five great grandchildren, Zoey Bunn, Shelby Nelms, Trenton Mathis, Madelyn McVey and Lacie McVey; special niece, Linda Jones; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Special thank you to her caregivers, Nessie Baker, Grace Lashley and Lauren Penny from Columbus Hospice House and staff for their love and compassion shown to our mother.
