John F. Griego Sr., age 91, a resident of Bosque Farms, NM, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2013.
John is survived by his six children, Antoinette Laubert and Gary, Ann Skelley and Ron, John Griego Jr. and Liz, Eileen López and Joe, Ron Griego and Barbara and Gina Roll and Rob, eleven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one sister, Anita Jaramillo of Las Vegas, NV.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Dow Griego, his parents, Manuel and Cipriana Griego, three brothers and three sisters.
After his wife's death in 1970, he continued to raise his children by himself and one of his greatest joys and accomplishments was being a father and grandfather.
John was a member of San Clemente Catholic Church in Los Lunas, NM.
John was born in Maés, NM in 1922, joined the military in 1942 and served in Germany during World War II. John was honorably discharged in 1946.
John later became an educator working in the Los Lunas school system for 27 years, then in Estancia, NM as a high school Principal, from where he retired in 1984.
John was elected Torrance County Commissioner in 1986 and continued as a cattle rancher until 1992 at which time he moved to Los Lunas, then to Bosque Farms in 2007.
The Rosary will be recited on Monday, June 17, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at French - Westside, Albuquerque, NM. Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at San Clemente Catholic Church in Los Lunas, NM. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Albuquerque, NM. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Dominic Griego, Ronnie James Griego, Sid Lucero, Ross Roll and sons-in-law, Gary Laubert, Robert Roll, Joe López and Ron Skelley. Honorary Pallbearers are Brian Laubert and Sean Laubert.
