C. Richard Schertz, 90, Gibson City, died at 1 p.m. Monday (June 10, 2013) at Gibson Area Hospital Annex, Gibson City.

He was born Jan. 5, 1923 in Normal, the son of Jesse V. and Mayme Barrow Schertz. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Betty (Art) Elliott. He married Rosemary Stubblefield on June 14, 1947 in McLean. She survives.

He is also survived by a son, John (Anna) Schertz; daughter, Jean (Phillip) Noellsch; two grandsons, James (Christina) Noellsch and David Noellsch and two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Raegan Noellsch.

He served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. He flew a Douglas A-20 aircraft in the Pacific Theater.
