Johann (John) Flamm, was born in Pilgersdorf, Oberpullendorf, Bezirk, Burgenland, Austria, in 1812.
He married there in 1830, his wife Mary Baumgartner, died there in 1853.

He re-married to Francisca (Francis) Windisch there, in 1854. Pilgersdorf is right on the border of Austria & Hungary, Ruled by the Austrian Empire, up until the borders changed and part of Burgenland, became Hungary.

Based on the family bible, owned by Johann Flamm and passed down to his great granddaughter, he was German, & could both read & write in the German language fluently., his daughter Rosella could also speak the language.

He wrote in his bible, that he had wanted to become a priest. And had studied to become one, but at some point changed his mind and married instead.

He married 3x., his first wife died, they didn't have any children., and he soon married again, to Mary Baumgartner in 1830, she died in 1853., this was very hard on Johann and he wrote about how difficult it was to lose her, in his family papers.

During their marriage, he was a farmer, he did sell some of their belongings, after her passing, perhaps to pay for her funeral. But it seems that after she died & he married Franscica, a short time later in 1854, that the family moved, but not far.

Rosella was b. in 1855, still in Pilgersdorf.
Rosella was b. on the 2nd of July 1855, in Pilgersdorf, then Pörgölény, Vas, Hungary.

She was baptized, Theresia Flam, on the 12th of July 1855., and the family emigrated to the U.S. in 1857, from Bremen, Germany, aboard the Ship Louise, to New York, Castle Gardens in Lower Manhattan.

Her father Johann (John) Flamm, had wrote in his Bible, & had letters that he wrote, talking about selling all of his farm equipment and all of his Household & personal items, before leaving for America. He had a large inventory of goods & farm equipment that he sold.
