Mr. Ed Fleming died of wounds at his ranch home on South Llano two miles above Telegraph Sunday morning, June 11 at 7:30. At that time, he was 40 years, 11 months and 4 days old.

Mr. Fleming was the son of O. B. Fleming, well known in Kimble county, and was born in San Saba County. He came to Kimble County with his parents when a very small child and so almost his entire life was spent in what is commonly called the telegraph community. On May 7, 1897, he was married to Miss Ben Lydia Bishop, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. J. L. Bishop who now live in Junction. Mrs. Fleming and their four sons and two daughters survive their husband and father.

Mr. Fleming united with the Evergreen Baptist church in 1904. As he came to manhood, he naturally engaged in farming and ranching, in which he was successful. He was active and industrious, took as interest in community affairs and bore the responsibility of citizenship seriously. There can be no doubt that every person of his acquaintance regrets his untimely death.

On Monday, June 12, 1922 at 11:00 A. M. Mr. Fleming was buried in the Junction Cemetery Rev. S F. Marsh of the local Baptist Church conducted the services and a choir rendered appropriate music. Many relatives and a large and representative group of Kimble County people were present.

News reached Junction about 4 pm Friday, that Ed Fleming, well known stockman of telegraph, had been seriously shot and that O. L. Freeman, Telegraph merchant had also received a gun wound. Mr. Fleming was quickly taken to his ranch home and medical attention given him. Hopes were entertained for his recovery, but the wounds proved more serious than it was at first tho’t and he died early Sunday morning.

Mr. Freeman came to town for medical attention, and was later arrested and released on $1000.00 bond. After Mr. Fleming died Sunday, Mr. Freeman was re-arrested and later released on a $7500.00 bond.

Both men are well known citizens of the Telegraph community and differences resulting in the shooting Friday evening have existed for some month past.
